LaserActive - Is there an emulator?

Although we like to keep it MAME only here, if you just HAVE to post about other emus, then here you go.

LaserActive - Is there an emulator?

Post by MaximumRD » August 16th, 2011, 10:42 am

It occurred to me the chances I will ever own an LaserActive machine are slim and none. With that in mind I was wondering, is there an Emulator that supports LaserActive titles (Perhaps DAPHNE?) and would it even be possible to "obtain" rips of the titles like you can for other Daphne Laser disc titles? Not asking for links or anything shady just wondering if it is even worth looking into thanks.

I would say Daphne is your best bet. You can get the rips from P2p sites. I however have never got Daphne to work right. You would need to find someone that has played around with it.
My child, you have come to me my son. For who now is your father if it is not me? I am the well spring, from which you flow. When I am gone, you will have never been. What would your world be, without me? My son.

I have Daphne installed on my MAME cabinet and have gotten familiar with it. Is there something I can help you with?

Duh, ignore my post above, I see your question.

I would have to say no. I don't believe Daphne can play these laserdiscs. I have never actually even heard of this device until your post so I did some quick searching and it appears that the bios files required to play the games are not correct (bad dump). That may be one issue. I noticed that a Sega CD could play these games, so if you could find the rom images, I suppose you could play them on a Sega CD emulator but again it leads back to the problem of a bad dump of the bios files.

The games sound similar to some Daphne games so for now this may be your only option.

I remember seeing the LaserActive, but the $1000 price tag quickly turned my head away.

Wired has a neat article on it. http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/09/laseractive/
"Pioneer forged agreements with Sega and NEC, meaning that a fully tricked-out LaserActive could play Genesis and TurboGrafx games on cartridge, CD and laserdisc."

jyarrison may be on to something with using an emo like Gens+?

Naw A Sega Cd cannot play LASERACTIVE titles. I think your a bit confused, the LASERACTIVE machine supported modules for TG-16 and Sega Genesis/Sega CD but LASERACTIVE specific titles had a much greater resolution and color palette then Sega CD could ever do. This is partly why Laseractive machines are so expensive and hard to come by.

I was hoping that since LASERACTIVE games came on LaserDiscs that Daphne could play them, I am still not sure.
