From the Collection

Post by Hierophant » July 12th, 2009, 11:45 am

Since I don't have a MAME cab to show off, I want to display a few rare treasures from my video games collection.

Let's check out the Neo Geo AES for starters! :woot:

Never get rid of that!

Such a treasure, it had so many games I enjoy, though with an emulator now since I no longer have that.

Don't worry, these pics are not for ebay, they're just for fun. :V:

A lot of the stuff I'm gonna show is kinda redundant in a way because of emulation. Still, the Neo Geo AES is a nice piece of gear to have. There's nothing like feeling the weight of a Neo Geo cartridge in your hands.

Now let's have a look a closer look at some of those carts.

The Last Blade 2, a very beautiful game.

The King of Fighters '99 owned my life at the turn of the century.

I never had the chance to get any of these rare consoles cos the only thing I had was a PS1 and a Gameboy Pocket. However my friends had a variety of consoles such as a FunZone, a Polystation and my cousin had a Nintendo 64 which is very similar to this console by the way

That is one killer setup you got there Heiro. My experience with neogeo has only been on Mame/arcade, but that system looks beautiful, especially those arcade sticks. In my book, a collection like that is even better than a cabinet.

No worries, elias, at least now you can explore all the classic Neo Geo games on MAME. :V:

Yeah suits, I don't know exactly how long I've had the Neo Geo AES for (+15 years?) but those joysticks hold up just as well today as they did when they were new. SNK gear was built to last.
:sparta:

I tried NeoRage one time, Chris, but it was long before I even new anything about MAME. I think somehow I maybe ended up with a command line version. In any case it confused the heck outta me at the time so I gave up on it. I believe some of those more Neo Geo specific emus give access to additional features not available in MAME, namely the extra NGCD content like art galleries and extra game modes.
:woot:

Now let's have a detailed look at the game that was plugged into the console back in the first two pics, The King of Fighters '98.

The reason to devote a section just to this game is to show some of the cool artwork in the bonus manual.

When you hear the term "hand drawn graphics" in reference to 2D games, the line drawings on the left hand page of the next shot show literally what that means.
