Time to build an arcade machine and I dont have a clue...

Post by scgarfield » July 5th, 2015, 9:29 am

Hey everyone. I just joined up to try and get some good info on building an arcade machine for my wife to be, for a wedding present.

I have a design in mind for the layout and also the finish/style, but I have no idea where to start when it comes to the internals.

Obviously theres all kinds of stuff on ebay and across various online stores/suppliers, so its a bit of a jungle out there for me.

I want to run 4 joysticks.... with the middle 2 being 6 buttons each and the outside 2 having 3 buttons each. Its important that we can play 4 player simpsons, but still be able to play all the fighting games I like the way they are supposed to be played.

So where do I start? Is there an "ideal" system or build that I should go for internally? I have been looking at a 2019 in one Jamma kit... Is that in the same catergory as mame?

I only have 3 months and not the biggest budget, but I think I can bang one out with some solid advise

Thanks in advance!

Jama is a system board with like 60 (or in your case 2019) arcade games already built in. It will not have Simpsons.
There are Jama control board to PS2 ( not the gaming system but the type of IO interface) encoder.

I recommend:
computer with MAME. Anything better intel P4 and 512MB ram with 256MB video card will do the trick.
Get a keyboard encoder like iPAC.
I need to know your budget before I can go on.

Thanks for your response.

Ok cool sounds good. Think a pc like that can be made/found for a minimal price.

Didnt want to spend more than $1000 au, which I think is a good budget...?

Deff want to use quality joysticks and buttons.

Dont know if its possible to run 2 or even 3 systems inside the 1 cabinet?

Can I post links to parts I find for the build here?
