Re: How to "lock" the shooting button so you can keep it pre

Rapid fire can be activated in MAME cheats, although it's silly to invoke it in R-Type since it nullifies the ability to release the charged up beam attack. The beam adds more strategy to the game and can make mince meat of tough enemies and bosses, so you're actually better off without rapid fire. ...

Re: Seraph's Top 100 Arcade Games List Discussion

Yeah, I would drop Virtua Fighter in favour of Samurai Shodwon any day, but I'm totally biased towards SNK! Have you thought about Rival Schools, Seraph? I've been playing it a bit on ePSXe lately and it just seems to stomp other 3D arcade fighters for fun, playability, and cool characters.

Re: What is your favorite style of joystick to play on?

I prefer the ball style joystick over the club style because that's what I'm used to. I've been using the same Namco Arcade Stick since the PS1 days.

Re: Seraph's Top 100 Arcade Games List Discussion

One thing I wonder about, Seraph, is how some of the selected games apply to MAME? There are a few in the list that are either in the fairly preliminary stages of emulation, or not yet emulated at all; or is that irrelevant since it's Top 100 'Arcades'?

Alright, so much for Sega and Namco. Chalk one up for Midway / Atari.

Re: Seraph's Top 100 Arcade Games List Discussion

Yeah, Sega, so dominant with the race driving games. Namco, also pretty good. Gotta love Ridge Racer.

Re: Seraph's Top 100 Arcade Games List Discussion

The first arcade driving game which always springs to my mind is Virtua Racing; not only for the great gameplay and graphics, but its status as the most influential game of the genre. Everything else seems kinda second best. Can't really argue much with your picks. I mean, I also have a soft spot fo...

Re: Recommended Games Discussion

Congrats on your impending parenthood! Yeah, I reckon you'll be a bit too preoccupied after that happens to spend much time on Top 100s.

Re: A Beat-Em-Up I played as a kid.

Hmmm.... Interesting. That sounds a lot like a manticore, a mythical creature which is also part of the D&D universe and appears in both games; Tower of Doom and Shadows over Mystara. Here's a list of related games from MAMEInfo to consider: Recommended Games (Knights): Warlords Demons & Dra...
